Dramatising the Good Friday crucifixion at the Broadway shopping centre - joint event with CTiGP churches.
Supporting fairtrade through the work of TEAR Fund and Traidcraft
People with vision and enthusiasm seized the opportunity to plant a new church in 1927 when the fields of Randwick Park became a new housing development. As the church grew, so the buildings were extended to provide a base for the work God was doing in this community. This heritage of mission and outreach is a cornerstone of our church.
Originally part of the Congregational Church, our label changed to 'URC' when the United Reformed Church brought Congregational and Presbyterian churches together in 1972. We later combined with Staddiscombe Gospel Fellowship and adopted the current name: "Plymstock United Church" in 1991, and the church has continued to grow.
We are an evangelical charismatic church, believing that the Bible is the Word of God and Jesus is the Son of God. So we value and support the work of the Evangelical Alliance which promotes unity and truth, acts as an evangelical voice to the state, society and the wider church, and works collaboratively with Alliance members and other evangelicals, to present Christ credibly as good news for spiritual and social transformation.
Locally we work in partnership with 14 other churches united as "Christians Together in Greater Plymstock", with regular joint worship and prayer events, ministers' fraternals and mission outreach activities. (And we also borrow one another's premises from time to time!) Find out more about the other churches bly clicking here.
As part of our commitment to show the love of Jesus, we support the work of TEAR Fund and Traidcraft through personal involvement, selling goods, and financial giving. Our Junior Church groups collect for TEAR Fund as part of their offerings. We are also committed to tithing our income - giving 10% to support charities with a focus on development aid, relief work, and evangelistic outreach.
